A translucent book-shaped LED lamp for a short shelf

A semi-transparent, hollow 3D-printed lamp shaped like a row of books — short enough to fit a specific short shelf, hollow inside to house an LED strip, translucent enough for the warm glow to read through. A custom commission with no off-the-shelf equivalent, refined collaboratively until it hit Julianne's brief.
What they came to us with
The customer wanted a decorative shelf lamp shaped like a row of books — semi-transparent so an LED strip inside would glow through it, with the geometry tuned to fit a specific (short) shelf in their home library. Nothing on the market matched the vision: the existing decorative-lamp options were either the wrong size, the wrong shape, or didn't have the right translucency for the lighting effect.
What we did
Julianne arrived with a clear creative brief and the geometry. Bicester3D fit three criteria — competitive pricing, the right translucent PLA in stock (a mellow yellow that gives the lit lamp its warm glow), and a domestic UK option for the back-and-forth that a one-off custom commission needs. We worked through several rounds of refinement together: Julianne reviewed each print, fed back, and we reprinted with adjustments to geometry, wall thickness and translucency until the part hit the brief on the shelf and under the LED.
“I am so pleased with the result.”

Result
The finished lamp sits on the bookshelf lit from within by an LED strip — exactly the original vision. A clean illustration of where 3D printing earns its keep: a one-off, semi-bespoke decorative piece with no commercial equivalent, made affordable by iteration-friendly per-part pricing rather than tooling cost.
